My thread keeps tangling or knotting

Pull thread from the end of the skein with the number code so it comes out neatly, and work with about an arm's length at a time. Separate strands one at a time, pinching the thread between your thumb and finger. (Manual pages 5 and 6.)

My satin stitch looks uneven

Keep each stitch as close as possible to the previous one and lined up with it. On petals and irregular shapes, start in the middle and work outward. If the base of a shape needs more coverage, satin stitch the edges diagonally. (Manual pages 17 to 20.)

My French knots pull through or fall apart

Use both hands, so rest your hoop on a table or a stand. Wrap the floss 2 to 3 times round the needle, keep it tight, and go back down right next to where you came up, not through the same hole. (Manual pages 25 to 28.)

My back stitch curves look jagged

Use shorter stitches. The shorter the back stitch, the smoother your curves will be. (Manual page 16.)
